Core Responsibilities
- Lead the comprehensive design process for vertical transportation (VT) systems—including elevators, escalators, and moving walks—from initial concept to final specification.
- Execute meticulous traffic analysis studies using industry-standard software (e.g., Elevate) to determine optimal system configurations for diverse building typologies, such as high-rise commercial, residential, and healthcare facilities.
- Author and prepare detailed, performance-based specifications that serve as the blueprint for procurement and installation, ensuring clarity and quality.
- Guarantee all designs and installations strictly adhere to safety codes and standards, with a *mastery* of ASME A17.1 and familiarity with other relevant local and national building regulations.
- Provide expert oversight during the installation, testing, and commissioning phases of new and modernized VT projects, acting as the owner's representative.
- Conduct thorough condition assessments and due diligence reports for existing vertical transportation assets, delivering clear, actionable recommendations for modernization or replacement.
- Review and dissect third-party maintenance contracts, providing insightful analysis and recommendations for cost optimization, compliance, and performance enhancement.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline is strongly preferred.
- A minimum of seven years of progressive experience as a Vertical Transportation Engineer, Elevator Consultant, or in a similar capacity within a specialty consulting firm or A/E services environment.
- Demonstrable expertise in designing complex elevator systems, including gearless traction, machine-room-less (MRL), and destination dispatch technologies.
- *In-depth* knowledge of modern elevator and escalator technology, encompassing regenerative drives, control systems, and component specifications.
- Advanced proficiency with traffic analysis software (Elevate or equivalent) and a strong command of design tools such as AutoCAD and/or Revit for system integration.
- Proven project management capabilities, with a track record of successfully managing multiple projects from conception through to completion on time and within budget.
- An exceptional, integrated understanding of both mechanical and electrical systems and how they interact within the context of vertical transportation.
- Strong commercial acumen, including experience with contract negotiation, bid analysis, and maintenance agreement reviews.
