Transportation Systems Engineer
Location: Hybrid (Washington-based).
Project: Design sustainable mobility solutions for a leading institution.
We're seeking a Transportation Engineer to develop and optimize commute systems that balance operational needs, sustainability goals, and regulatory compliance. This role combines technical engineering expertise with practical transportation planning to create efficient mobility solutions for our workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineer transportation demand management (TDM) systems to reduce single-occupancy vehicle trips;
- Conduct traffic impact analyses and develop mitigation strategies;
- Design and evaluate transportation infrastructure improvements;
- Apply engineering principles to optimize shuttle routes, parking systems, and multimodal connections;
- Develop technical specifications for transportation-related capital projects;
- Analyze system performance using engineering metrics and data visualization tools;
- Ensure solutions comply with ADA standards and other transportation regulations.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering (Transportation focus), Environmental Engineering, or related field;
- 2+ years' experience in transportation engineering or urban infrastructure planning;
- Proficiency in transportation modeling software (e.g., VISSIM, Synchro, or similar);
- Knowledge of traffic engineering principles and roadway design standards;
- Experience with GIS applications for spatial analysis.
Preferred Skills
- PE license or EIT certification;
- Experience with sustainable transportation design (bike/pedestrian infrastructure, EV charging);
- Knowledge of commute trip reduction (CTR) regulations;
- Familiarity with transportation project cost estimation.
