Switchgear Engineer

Key Responsibilities
- Spearhead the complete design and specification of low and medium voltage switchgear (up to 38kV), panelboards, and motor control centers (MCCs) based on client requirements and industry standards.
- Develop and interpret complex one-line diagrams, control schematics, and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD Electrical or similar platforms, ensuring accuracy and clarity for manufacturing and installation teams.
- Serve as the primary technical authority for sales teams and clients, providing expert application engineering and equipment selection consulting throughout the entire project lifecycle.
- Manage the end-to-end production process—from initial design review to final assembly—ensuring all equipment meets stringent quality and safety specifications, including full compliance with ANSI/IEEE C37.20 standards.
- Create comprehensive technical documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), component specifications, test procedures, and final operational manuals.
- Coordinate and witness factory acceptance tests (FAT), meticulously documenting results and troubleshooting any identified issues before equipment shipment.
- Offer post-sale technical support to a sophisticated client base, assisting customers with installation queries, commissioning challenges, and ongoing operational troubleshooting.
Qualifications & Skills
Required
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a closely related technical field.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of direct experience working as a Switchgear Engineer, Application Engineer, or a dedicated Equipment Engineer in the power systems domain.
- Demonstrated proficiency in designing electrical systems incorporating low and medium voltage switchgear, protective relays (e.g., Schweitzer, GE), circuit breakers, and complex motor controls.
- Hands-on, expert-level experience with AutoCAD Electrical for the creation of precise schematics and engineering diagrams.
- A deep, working understanding of relevant industry standards, particularly ANSI/IEEE (C37.20), and a strong familiarity with NEC and UL codes.
- Exceptional ability to translate ambiguous customer needs into concrete, detailed technical specifications and actionable designs.
Preferred
- A Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is highly advantageous and will be given strong consideration.
- Experience with 3D modeling software, such as SolidWorks, for enclosure design, component layout, and structural verification.
- Prior experience in a client-facing role that involved technical sales support, application consulting, or direct customer project management.
- Familiarity with manufacturer-specific configuration and quoting software is a significant plus.
