Structural Quality Control Engineer – Special Inspector

Responsibilities
- Develop and refine project-specific Quality Control Plans that align with IBC Chapter 17 requirements.
- Perform on-site inspections of reinforced concrete, structural steel, welding, bolting, masonry, and cold-formed members.
- Conduct non-destructive testing (UT, MT, PT) and oversee destructive sampling when necessary.
- Review mill certifications, welding procedure specifications, and material test reports—flag discrepancies immediately.
- Interpret structural drawings, shop details, and RFIs, ensuring construction matches intent.
- Track non-conformances in a digital database; issue corrective notices and verify close-out.
- Liaise with design engineers to resolve field variances and propose cost-effective fixes.
- Generate concise daily and special inspection reports—deliverables suitable for permitting authorities.
- Mentor junior inspectors; lead toolbox talks on evolving code provisions.
- Contribute to continuous QA/QC program enhancements, integrating lean principles and data analytics.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (master’s preferred).
- 5+ years in construction QC, special inspections, or testing laboratory environments.
- Active certifications: ICC Reinforced Concrete, ICC Structural Steel & Bolting, AWS CWI, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Expert knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360/341; familiarity with ASTM C39, E164.
- Proficiency operating NDT equipment and interpreting lab test data.
- Clear, persuasive technical writing and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to client job sites; report writing and program development may be completed remotely.
