Structural Design Engineer – Seismic & Load-Bearing Specialist
You are a Structural Design Engineer who can juggle finite-element models, seismic coefficients, and real-world constraints without breaking a sweat. In this role, you will guide the full life-cycle of load-bearing systems—steel, concrete, and wood—from schematic concept through stamped drawings and site verification. Our multidisciplinary team tackles commercial towers, industrial facilities, bridges, and telecom structures… and we value sharp minds more than zip codes (remote work is welcome).
Responsibilities
- Execute structural analysis for gravity, wind, and seismic loads using RISA-3D, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, and SAP2000.
- Design economical foundations—shallow, deep, and mat—while satisfying geotechnical recommendations.
- Produce and revise BIM-enabled construction documents in Revit Structure and AutoCAD.
- Check shop drawings, connection details, and material submittals for code and spec compliance.
- Perform field inspections, author punch-lists, and issue stamped inspection reports.
- Lead retrofit studies for existing assets, including nonlinear seismic evaluation and FEA-based strengthening schemes.
- Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, and fabricators to resolve clashes and optimize schedules.
- Mentor junior engineers; review calculations to ensure peer-review integrity.
- Stay current on IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318, NDS, and state amendments—then translate requirements into practical details.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 5+ years of U.S. practice designing steel and concrete frames; PE or SE license (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
- Proficiency in RISA-3D, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, and Revit Structure.
- Demonstrated mastery of load combinations, lateral systems, vibration analysis, and finite element techniques.
- Solid grasp of material science and fatigue behavior for steel, concrete, and timber.
- Clear, concise technical writing; ability to draft calculation packages and inspection reports.
Preferred Skills
- Bridge or telecom tower design experience.
- Experience with performance-based seismic design and nonlinear time-history analysis.
- Familiarity with AWS D1.1 welding code and AISC bolt standards.
- Working knowledge of Python or Excel VBA for parametric design sets.
Why This Role
– Influence landmark projects that demand innovative structural solutions.
– Collaborate with a diverse cohort of architects, energy analysts, and automation specialists.
– Shape the next generation of engineers through mentorship and knowledge sharing.
– Choose where you work: headquarters, satellite hub, or your own studio.
