Structural Design Engineer - Remote Opportunity
You will be instrumental in translating complex architectural visions into safe, efficient, and constructible structural realities.
Key Responsibilities
- Spearhead the development of precise structural calculations for primary and secondary structural members (including beams, columns, and foundations) ensuring full compliance with current building codes and standards like IBC and ASCE 7.
- Engineer and analyze robust structural systems for a variety of materials—primarily steel and concrete, but also including wood and masonry—for diverse project types.
- Develop comprehensive and highly detailed structural drawings, plans, and specifications using AutoCAD and Revit, ensuring seamless integration with other disciplines through BIM coordination.
- Meticulously select appropriate construction materials and specify connections, creating designs that are not only structurally sound but also economical and constructible.
- Perform value engineering analyses to optimize designs for cost and efficiency without compromising safety or integrity.
- Conduct thorough reviews of shop drawings and submittals to guarantee alignment with the design intent and project specifications.
- Prepare and assemble complete calculation packages required for permitting with various jurisdictions.
- Collaborate closely with architects, MEP engineers, BIM modelers, and construction teams to resolve design challenges and ensure a cohesive project delivery. You are the crucial link that ensures the architectural dream can be built.
Qualifications and Expertise
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering is required; a Master's degree is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 4-7 years of progressive experience in structural design, specifically within an A/E consulting or structural engineering firm environment.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in at least one state is strongly preferred; a Structural Engineer (S.E.) license is a significant advantage.
- Demonstrated proficiency with industry-standard structural analysis and design software is essential, including RISA-3D, ETABS, and/or SAP2000.
- Advanced skills in drafting and modeling software, particularly Revit and AutoCAD, are mandatory for this role. Familiarity with Enercalc and custom spreadsheets for detailed calculations is expected.
- A profound understanding of US building codes and material-specific codes (AISC, ACI) is non-negotiable.
- You must possess an exceptional ability to interpret complex architectural drawings and translate them into a logical structural framework.
- Superior attention to detail, analytical capabilities, and problem-solving skills are paramount for success.
