Steel Structural Engineer - Remote
Our team is committed to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in steel construction, delivering landmark projects across the industrial and commercial sectors. We foster a culture of collaboration and professional growth, empowering our engineers to take ownership and excel in a dynamic project landscape. You will be a key part of a team that prides itself on quality and ingenuity.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and analyze comprehensive structural steel systems for buildings and non-building structures from conceptual design through to construction administration.
- Engineer complex steel connections—including moment, shear, and braced frame connections—ensuring they are both practical and efficient.
- Perform advanced stability analysis using state-of-the-art methods, such as the Direct Analysis Method, to validate structural integrity.
- Optimize steel member sizes and framing layouts through value engineering to achieve project objectives related to cost, schedule, and performance.
- Ensure all designs strictly adhere to current AISC, ASCE, and IBC codes, with a particular focus on AISC 360 and seismic design provisions.
- Conduct meticulous reviews of steel fabrication shop drawings, erection plans, and other submittals for compliance with design documents.
- Collaborate effectively with architects, MEP engineers, fabricators, and construction teams to deliver integrated and constructible designs.
- Prepare detailed structural calculations, technical reports, and comprehensive design documentation for project records and client review.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; a Master's degree is a significant advantage.
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable, or the verifiable ability to obtain licensure.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience focused specifically on the design of structural steel systems in the US market.
- Demonstrated proficiency with mainstream structural analysis software such as RISA-3D, RAM Structural System, ETABS, or SAP2000.
- Expert-level understanding of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, connection design principles, welding, and bolting standards.
- Essential experience with dedicated steel connection design software (e.g., Limcon, IDEA StatiCa).
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with 3D modeling and detailing software like Tekla Structures or SDS/2 for Building Information Modeling (BIM) integration.
- Practical knowledge of the steel fabrication and erection process... a crucial element for ensuring design constructability.
- Background in performing specialized analyses (for instance, vibration analysis, progressive collapse, or erection engineering).
- Exceptional problem-solving aptitude and the capacity to develop innovative structural solutions for unique architectural challenges.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, necessary for coordinating with diverse, multidisciplinary project teams.
