Solar Structural Design Engineer
We are a forward-thinking leader in the renewable energy sector, partnering with top-tier EPC firms, engineering consultants, and manufacturers. Our focus is on delivering exceptional engineering solutions for complex solar energy projects—from utility-scale ground mounts to intricate commercial rooftop systems. You will be part of a dynamic team of experts dedicated to advancing sustainable infrastructure and shaping the future of energy production through technical excellence and innovation. We champion a culture of collaboration, where your expertise directly contributes to landmark projects.
Key Responsibilities
- You will architect and engineer robust structural systems for solar arrays, including sophisticated racking and mounting solutions for various site conditions.
- Design diverse and efficient foundation systems—including driven piles, ground screws, and ballasted foundations—based on comprehensive geotechnical analysis and soil-structure interaction modeling.
- Perform rigorous structural analysis to evaluate the impact of environmental loads, such as high-velocity winds, snow accumulation, and seismic activity, adhering strictly to ASCE 7 and other relevant building codes.
- Conduct thorough structural integrity assessments of existing commercial and industrial building roofs to determine their capacity to support new solar installations, providing clear and actionable reports.
- Utilize advanced structural analysis software (like RISA-3D, STAAD.Pro, and SAP2000) to create precise finite element analysis (FEA) models and validate design concepts.
- Prepare, review, and professionally stamp (P.E. seal) complete structural drawing sets and calculation packages for permitting and construction, ensuring full compliance with local and national standards.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams—including civil engineers, electrical engineers, and project managers—to resolve complex design challenges and ensure seamless project integration.
- Provide expert consultation on value engineering opportunities, material selection (steel, aluminum, concrete), and construction methodologies to optimize project cost and timeline without compromising structural soundness.
Qualifications & Expertise
- A valid Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to obtain licensure in additional states through reciprocity.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering; a Master’s degree is highly advantageous.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in structural engineering, with a strong portfolio of completed solar projects (ground-mount, rooftop, or carport).
- Demonstrated proficiency in structural analysis software such as RISA-3D, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, or similar FEA tools.
- Expertise in CAD and BIM software, specifically AutoCAD and Revit Structure, for drawing production and model coordination.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. building codes and standards, particularly ASCE 7 (specifically wind load provisions), the International Building Code (IBC), ACI (concrete), and AISC (steel).
- Proven experience in geotechnical report interpretation and the design of shallow and deep foundations (e.g., using software like LPILE).
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with utility-scale solar projects (>10 MW).
- Specific experience in designing or analyzing tracker and fixed-tilt racking systems from major manufacturers.
- Active NCEES record.
