Solar PV Engineer – Utility & C&I Design

Remotely
Full-time

An independent clean-energy developer—engineer-led, research-driven, and financially sound—delivers turnkey solar solutions for utilities, Fortune 500 corporates, and community aggregators. The culture prizes evidence-based design, open knowledge sharing, and pragmatic sustainability.

Responsibilities

- Create complete PV plant layouts, single-line diagrams, and string sizing sheets that satisfy NEC, IEEE, and local AHJ requirements.

- Run detailed performance simulations in PVSyst, SAM, and Helioscope—iterating designs to maximise specific yield and IRR.

- Select and evaluate modules, inverters, and BOS equipment; verify thermal limits and power-electronics compatibility.

- Develop advanced degradation, soiling, and bifacial gain models; issue bankable energy assessments.

- Execute factory quality audits, EL/IV testing, and shipment inspections to safeguard supply-chain integrity.

- Author commissioning procedures, perform IV-curve tracing, diagnose under-performance, and recommend corrective actions.

- Collaborate with civil, structural, and interconnection teams; mentor junior engineers and review their calculations.

- Produce clear, investor-ready technical memos, risk registers, and O&M hand-offs.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering.

- 4+ years hands-on experience as a Solar PV Engineer or PV Design Engineer on utility or C&I projects ≥5 MW.

- Expert use of PVSyst, SAM, Helioscope, AutoCAD, ETAP, and Excel VBA for sensitivity analyses.

- Deep grasp of photovoltaic physics, semiconductor materials, and power-electronics behaviour under variable irradiance.

- Proven command of the National Electrical Code (NEC), UL 1741, IEEE 1547, and utility interconnection standards.

- Record of leading field commissioning, IV-curve tracing, thermography, and performance troubleshooting.

- Ability to interpret EL images, degradation curves, and statistical uncertainty reports.

- Clear, concise technical writing and verbal communication—stakeholder-oriented and gender-neutral.

- US work authorisation. Remote collaboration possible; occasional travel to job sites and factories (≈15 %).
