Solar Installation Design Engineer – Residential & Commercial

Key Responsibilities
- Produce site-specific, buildable electrical and structural drawings for 3 kW–5 MW PV arrays.
- Optimize stringing, inverter placement, conduit runs, wire sizing, and attachment details for rapid field execution.
- Apply NEC 2023, IBC, IRC, and local amendments to guarantee permit approval on the first submission.
- Translate sales proposals into stamped plan sets within 24–48 hours, maintaining ±2 % accuracy on BOM.
- Coordinate with field crews to adapt layouts when unforeseen roof obstructions, soil issues, or AHJ comments arise.
- Generate and review as-built drawings, capturing every deviation for close-out documentation.
- Mentor junior designers on best practices in Aurora Solar, Solo, Helioscope, and AutoCAD workflows.
- Maintain a living library of utility interconnection requirements across all major U.S. markets.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering—or equivalent proven expertise.
- 3+ years of hands-on PV system design for both sloped-roof and flat-roof structures.
- Demonstrated mastery of Aurora Solar, Helioscope, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and manufacturer sizing tools.
- Deep familiarity with rapid shutdown, AFCI, grounding, and bonding strategies.
- Ability to interpret structural load paths, wind/snow calculations, and seismic zones.
- Fast, precise drafter—50+ plan sets per month without quality erosion.
- Clear, courteous communicator able to distill code language into actionable field notes.
- Eligibility to work in the United States; willingness to obtain PE or NABCEP certification is a plus.
Preferred Extras
- Experience integrating battery storage or EV charging into PV designs.
- Knowledge of reroofing logistics, fire setbacks, and wildfire mitigation measures.
- Comfort with Python or Excel VBA for automating repetitive design tasks.
