Solar Commissioning Engineer – PV Systems Validation
Solar capacity is accelerating—yet financiers release funds only after rigorous commissioning proves performance. Your signature unlocks revenue, de-risks assets, and safeguards grid reliability. Join a mission-focused team that values autonomy, intellectual rigor…and the satisfaction of watching 200 acres of panels deliver clean electrons because you said, “It’s ready.”
Responsibilities
- Draft project-specific commissioning plans—covering electrical, mechanical and communications scopes.
- Execute field tests: IV-curve tracing (Solmetric or equivalent), insulation-resistance meggering, infrared thermography, polarity and continuity checks.
- Verify SCADA, metering, string combiners and power-quality devices, both on site and through secure remote sessions.
- Correlate live power data with design documents to confirm performance guarantees and warranty milestones.
- Lead root-cause analysis when discrepancies arise, coordinating with EPC, O&M and independent engineering teams.
- Compile meticulous final-commissioning dossiers: test results, punch-list closures, as-built drawings, safety sign-offs.
- Champion NFPA 70E and OSHA 1910 compliance—lockout–tagout, arc-flash boundaries, PPE, energized-work permitting.
- Present findings to asset owners in concise briefings that translate technical results into financial impact.
- Support hybrid work: 30–50 % travel to utility-scale sites, remainder data review and reporting from your preferred U.S. location.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering or similar discipline.
- 3 + years commissioning solar PV plants ≥ 5 MWdc.
- Hands-on expertise with IV-curve tracers, megohmmeters, thermal cameras, power analyzers.
- Proficiency reading single-line diagrams, string schedules, protection settings.
- Fluency in data analysis tools (Excel, Python, or PV monitoring portals) for trend correlation.
- Uncompromising safety mindset; current OSHA 30 or ability to obtain within 90 days.
- Crystal-clear technical writing—your reports withstand lender scrutiny.
- U.S. work authorization.
Preferred Skills
- PE license, NABCEP PV Installation Professional, or CxA certification.
- Experience commissioning BESS hybrids, tracker controls, high-voltage substations.
- Familiarity with SEL RTAC, Modbus TCP/IP, IEC 61850, and networking fundamentals.
- Spanish fluency for multinational field crews.
- Drone-based IR imaging analysis.
