Renewable Energy Electrical Engineer

Remotely
Full-time

You are an inventive Renewable Energy Electrical Engineer ready to shape next-generation solar farms, wind projects, and battery storage plants. From any U.S. location—yes, remote is an option—you will guide electrical design, energy modelling, and grid interconnection from first sketch to energisation.

About the Role

- Lead electrical design for photovoltaic arrays, wind turbines and lithium-ion BESS up to 500 MW.

- Develop single-line diagrams, conduit schedules, protection settings… then refine them until inspection-ready.

- Prepare energy production studies in PVSyst, Helioscope and ETAP, validating results against real-world data.

- Spearhead interconnection applications, ensuring compliance with IEEE 1547, NEC 2023 and regional utility tariffs.

- Coordinate collection system layouts, substation grounding and relay logic with civil, structural and SCADA teams.

- Mentor junior engineers, translating complex code clauses into practical field instructions.

Key Responsibilities

- Model annual, monthly and hourly yield for solar, wind and hybrid plants.

- Optimise conductor sizes to balance ampacity, voltage drop and cost.

- Perform arc-flash, load-flow and transient stability studies in ETAP or PSCAD.

- Draft technical narratives for Independent Engineering reviews.

- Engage with ISO/RTO engineers during System Impact Studies—answer tough questions promptly.

- Review vendor documentation for switchgear, relays, inverters and transformers.

- Champion safety culture through NFPA 70E audits and constructability walks.

- Track project milestones, highlighting electrical risks before they escalate.

Must-Have Qualifications

- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

- 5+ years designing utility-scale solar, wind or BESS projects in North America.

- Proficiency with PVSyst, Helioscope, ETAP and AutoCAD.

- Thorough knowledge of NEC, IEEE 1547, UL 1741 and NESC.

- Demonstrated success shepherding at least two projects through interconnection approval to COD.

- Clear, persuasive technical writing and presentation skills.

Desirable Extras

- Professional Engineer (PE) license.

- Experience with PSCAD electromagnetic transients.

- Familiarity with HVDC-VSC or STATCOM technology.

- Working grasp of SCADA protocols (DNP3, IEC 61850).

- Spanish language capability for Latin-American supply chains.
