R&D Mechanical Engineer – Prototype & Design

Remotely

As a pioneering R&D Mechanical Engineer, you will drive the conceptualization and development of next-generation technologies. This role is for a creative thinker who excels at transforming complex scientific principles into functional, proof-of-concept prototypes. You will lead critical research initiatives, analyze experimental data, and contribute directly to our intellectual property portfolio. This position offers significant autonomy and the flexibility of a remote work environment for qualified individuals.

Key Responsibilities

- Spearhead applied research initiatives to investigate and validate emerging technologies, materials, and scientific principles relevant to our core industries (Aerospace, Medical Devices, Energy).

- Conceptualize, architect, and design novel mechanical systems and components using advanced CAD software (such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) to solve complex engineering challenges.

- Fabricate, assemble, and rigorously test proof-of-concept (POC) prototypes, employing a hands-on approach to validate design integrity and performance.

- Design and execute comprehensive experiments; you will collect, analyze, and interpret complex datasets using tools like MATLAB, Simulink, or LabVIEW to derive actionable insights.

- Conduct advanced simulations—including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with software like COMSOL or Ansys—to optimize designs prior to physical builds.

- Author detailed technical documentation, including research findings, test reports, and design specifications, for internal stakeholders and external partners.

- Provide critical technical support for new patent applications, working closely with legal teams to document and protect groundbreaking inventions.

- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, materials scientists, and project managers, to ensure seamless project progression from concept to validation.

Essential Qualifications

- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline; a Master’s or Ph.D. is highly advantageous.

- Demonstrable experience (typically 5+ years) in a dedicated research and development (R&D) engineering role.

- Deep proficiency in at least one major 3D CAD software package for intricate part and assembly design.

- Proven hands-on experience building and testing mechanical prototypes and experimental apparatus.

- A strong theoretical and practical understanding of core mechanical engineering principles, such as thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and materials science.

- The ability to work independently and manage complex research projects with minimal supervision in a remote or hybrid setting.

Preferred Skills & Competencies

- Expertise in using data acquisition and analysis software (LabVIEW, MATLAB/Simulink) for experimental control and data processing.

- Direct experience with advanced simulation tools (COMSOL, Ansys, Abaqus) for multi-physics analysis.

- A track record of contributing to patented technologies or published research papers.

- Familiarity with the product development lifecycle in regulated industries such as medical devices or aerospace/defense.

- Exceptional creativity and problem-solving abilities, with a talent for developing unconventional and effective solutions.

- Outstanding technical writing skills, capable of communicating complex ideas with clarity and precision.
