PV Design Engineer – Solar Electrical Systems & NEC Compliance

Remotely
Full-time

You translate irradiance into kWh and schematics into revenue. In this role you will lead end-to-end solar electrical design, validate performance models, and deliver code-compliant drawing packages that stand up to AHJ scrutiny.

Responsibilities

- Generate detailed DC and AC electrical drawings, one-lines, conduit and wire schedules.

- Define optimal string sizing, inverter matching and combiner aggregation for C&I and utility-scale arrays.

- Build energy models in PVSyst, PV*SOL and Helioscope; quantify performance loss factors and shade impacts.

- Execute NEC Article 690, UL 1741 and IEEE 1547 compliance reviews—anticipate inspection red flags before they appear.

- Optimize bill of materials, cut copper and aluminum by leveraging ETAP load-flow studies and cost-benefit analytics.

- Author memos that justify equipment selections (modules, power electronics, monitoring) to financiers and owners.

- Provide remote technical support to field crews during commissioning; resolve punch-list items with data-driven actions.

- Maintain a digital library of past projects to accelerate future design iterations.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s (or higher) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering.

- 4+ years dedicated to photovoltaic design—utility or C&I scale.

- Command of AutoCAD (or Revit), PVSyst, Helioscope; ETAP proficiency for high-voltage systems.

- Deep familiarity with power electronics, load-flow analysis, and grounding practices.

- Proven track record preparing stamped drawings, load calculations, fault-current studies.

- Data-driven mindset—Excel/VBA or Python for performance regressions welcomed.

- Clear, concise communicator able to explain technical nuance to non-engineers and financiers alike.

- Authorization to work in the United States; willingness to collaborate across time zones in a remote-first culture.

About the Employer

We are an independent engineering consultancy powering 6 GW of solar assets for developers, EPCs and asset owners. Our interdisciplinary team—designers, analysts, field engineers—values intellectual rigor, sustainability, and agile workflows. Expect constructive peer reviews, modern design tools, and the freedom to innovate.

Application Process

Submit a concise resume highlighting solar design achievements; include project sizes, PV software metrics, and NEC compliance milestones. Short-listed applicants will be invited to a technical interview focusing on real-world case studies… because great engineering speaks through evidence.
