Public Works Engineer
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the engineering division, setting priorities for roads, bridges, drainage, and public facilities projects.
- Shape and monitor a multi-year Capital Improvement Program worth $20M–$200M.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate in-house staff plus on-call A/E consultants.
- Review private-development submissions, ensuring code compliance and resilient design.
- Present technical findings to residents, boards, and elected officials—translating specs into clear public language.
- Administer budgets, grants, and contracts; track spend with cloud-based financial suites.
- Oversee asset-management databases, GIS layers, and condition assessments for roads, utilities, and structures.
- Champion sustainability—integrate low-impact development, green streets, and climate-ready design.
- Maintain regulatory compliance with FHWA, EPA, FEMA, and state DOT standards.
- Introduce process automations that cut review timelines and boost transparency.
Required Qualifications
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in any U.S. state.
- 8+ years of progressive civil-engineering experience, including 3 years supervising teams.
- Proven delivery of municipal infrastructure from concept through close-out.
- Fluency with asset-management software, GIS, and advanced Excel/Power BI dashboards.
- Command of public-sector budgeting, grant writing, and contract law.
- Confident public communicator; you distill data into persuasive narratives.
- U.S. work authorization.
Preferred Expertise
- Master’s in Public Administration, Engineering Management, or similar.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) credential.
- Familiarity with Envision, Greenroads, or LEED for infrastructure.
- Experience leading remote or hybrid civil-engineering teams.
