Process Design Engineer (Chemical)
We are a forward-thinking organization dedicated to innovation and engineering excellence. Our culture fosters collaboration and empowers individuals to take true ownership of their work. You will join a team of industry experts who are passionate about solving complex challenges and driving tangible progress. We believe in investing in our people, providing ample opportunities for professional growth, and supporting a healthy work-life balance, which includes flexible and remote work arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
- You will translate process concepts into detailed Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), establishing the foundational blueprint for projects.
- Conduct rigorous mass and energy balance calculations to ensure process efficiency, sustainability, and economic viability.
- Perform comprehensive equipment sizing and generate detailed specification sheets for critical components like pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, and reactors.
- Lead and actively participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) studies—including Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) reviews—to champion and guarantee operational safety from the ground up.
- Develop, validate, and interpret complex process simulations using industry-standard software (such as Aspen Plus or HYSYS) to predict performance and optimize designs.
- Engineer and document robust solutions for scaling up processes from laboratory or pilot scale to full-scale, reliable production environments.
- Identify and analyze plant bottlenecks through meticulous study; you will then propose and design effective modifications for process optimization and debottlenecking.
- Collaborate seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams—including mechanical, electrical, and control systems engineers—to deliver fully integrated and successful project solutions.
Qualifications & Expertise
- A Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline is required. A Master’s degree is considered a significant asset.
- You must possess a minimum of 5 years of direct experience as a Process Engineer or Process Design Engineer, preferably within industries like Chemical Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, Pharmaceuticals, or Water Treatment.
- Demonstrated, hands-on proficiency with process simulation software is essential (Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, ChemCAD, or similar).
- Expert-level understanding of P&ID development and interpretation is crucial, including practical familiarity with AutoCAD P&ID, AVEVA E3D, or other relevant CAD tools.
- Your background must include a deep, applied knowledge of core chemical engineering principles; specifically thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, and reaction kinetics.
- Proven experience facilitating or serving as a key contributor to process safety reviews (HAZOP, LOPA, What-If analysis) is mandatory.
- You have strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, evidenced by a track record of successfully optimizing complex chemical processes.
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable but not mandatory.
