Post-Tensioning Structural Engineer
You will join a culture that values profound technical excellence, continuous professional learning, and the delivery of impactful results. Our projects are diverse and challenging, ranging from landmark high-rise commercial buildings to complex institutional facilities. We empower our engineers with the autonomy to lead their designs and provide the resources needed to push the boundaries of what's possible in structural engineering. This position offers the flexibility to contribute to these landmark projects from a remote location, fostering a healthy and productive work-life integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Spearhead the comprehensive structural design and analysis of post-tensioned concrete systems, including slabs, beams, and girders, utilizing state-of-the-art software.
- Execute intricate calculations for prestressing forces, friction and wobble losses, and tendon elongations to ensure strict compliance with PTI standards and project specifications.
- Develop highly detailed and precise tendon layouts and anchorage details, meticulously optimizing for structural efficiency, economic viability, and overall constructability.
- Conduct meticulous reviews of post-tensioning shop drawings and technical submittals from specialty suppliers, ensuring absolute alignment with the core design intent.
- Serve as the primary technical authority for troubleshooting complex field issues during stressing operations... providing timely and effective solutions to on-site challenges.
- Engineer robust and durable repair designs for existing post-tensioning systems, performing condition assessments and specifying appropriate remedial actions for structural integrity.
- Champion value engineering by proposing and analyzing PT alternates to conventional reinforced concrete designs, clearly demonstrating cost, schedule, and performance benefits.
- Collaborate proactively with architectural, MEP, and civil engineering teams to integrate PT systems seamlessly into the holistic building design.
- Prepare and seal detailed structural engineering drawings and calculation packages for permitting and construction (a critical function of the role).
Qualifications & Expertise
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is required; a Master's degree with a structural focus is highly preferred.
- A current Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Structural Engineer (S.E.) license in at least one U.S. state is strongly desired.
- A minimum of seven years’ progressive experience focused specifically on the structural design of post-tensioned concrete buildings and structures.
- Proven mastery of specialized post-tensioning design software such as ADAPT-PT/RC, RAM Concept, or SAFE.
- High proficiency in general structural analysis software (e.g., ETABS, RISA-3D, SAP2000) and familiarity with BIM tools like Revit.
- An in-depth, expert-level understanding of prestressed concrete theory, including the long-term effects of concrete creep, shrinkage, and steel relaxation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of modern building codes and standards (ACI 318, IBC) and a deep familiarity with the Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI) design and construction manuals.
- Demonstrable experience with both unbonded and bonded post-tensioning systems across a variety of structural applications—from parking structures to high-rise towers.
Desired Attributes
- You possess a formidable analytical mindset with an exceptional, proven ability to solve the most complex structural problems.
- You are an outstanding communicator, capable of articulating intricate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
- You thrive in a collaborative, project-based environment but are also exceptionally self-motivated and disciplined enough to excel in a fully remote setting.
- Your attention to detail is second to none; you ensure the unwavering accuracy and integrity of every calculation, detail, and report you produce.
