Piping Design Engineer – 3D Plant Layout & Stress Analysis

You will design safe, economical, and maintainable piping networks across oil & gas, petrochemical, power-generation, water-treatment, and pharmaceutical projects. The position welcomes U.S.-based remote professionals who thrive on precision CAD work, disciplined code interpretation, and cross-functional teamwork.


Key Responsibilities  

- Generate intelligent 3D models and isometrics in Plant 3D, AVEVA E3D, and SmartPlant 3D.  

- Develop and revise P&IDs, line lists, and material take-offs.  

- Execute detailed pipe stress analysis in Caesar II; flag overstress, expansion, and vibration risks.  

- Select piping materials, gaskets, and valves that mitigate corrosion and erosion.  

- Design robust pipe supports, spring hangers, and expansion joints.  

- Perform clash detection in Navisworks; coordinate with structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.  

- Interpret ASME B31.3, API, and ASTM codes to guarantee regulatory compliance.  

- Produce construction-ready drawings, as-built updates, and redlines.  

- Mentor junior designers, review deliverables, and enforce CAD standards.  

- Interface with procurement and fabrication teams to streamline spool release.


Required Skills & Experience  

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.  

- 6+ years as a piping designer, piping engineer, or plant layout specialist.  

- Mastery of Plant 3D/P&ID and at least one of the following: AVEVA E3D, SmartPlant 3D.  

- Proven Caesar II stress analysis portfolio for high-temperature and high-pressure systems.  

- In-depth knowledge of ASME B31.3, API 610/650, and relevant OSHA guidelines.  

- Fluency in reading P&IDs, equipment layouts, and structural drawings.  

- Solid grasp of fluid dynamics, material science, and welding techniques.  

- Strong written and verbal English; able to create crisp technical reports.  

- Eligibility to work in the United States.


Preferred Qualifications  

- FE or PE license (Mechanical).  

- Experience with finite-element analysis (FEA) for nozzle loads.  

- Exposure to modular fabrication and skid design.  

- Familiarity with pharmaceutical cGMP and validation protocols.  

- Hands-on background in power-generation or renewable-energy piping.
