PCB Design Engineer – High-Speed Multilayer Boards
You will architect cutting-edge printed circuit boards that power aerospace, medical, and industrial innovations. Your layouts will push high-speed boundaries, meet rigorous compliance targets, and transition smoothly from prototype to mass manufacture.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate functional schematics into manufacturable, multilayer PCB layouts that minimize EMI and crosstalk.
- Run exhaustive Design Rule Checks and *pre-layout* signal-integrity simulations, refining stack-ups for controlled impedance.
- Generate clean Gerber, ODB++, and fabrication drawings—first time right.
- Curate and maintain component libraries with accurate footprints, 3D models, and parametric data.
- Drive Design for Manufacturability and Assembly reviews, balancing cost, reliability, and thermal constraints.
- Partner with mechanical, EE, and firmware teams to validate fit, airflow, and keep-out zones.
- Debug layout issues during bring-up, leveraging oscilloscopes, VNAs, and boundary-scan tools.
- Document board specifications, revision history, and test requirements with obsessive attention to detail.
Required Skills
- 4+ years designing complex PCBs (8+ layers, high-speed buses, differential pairs).
- Mastery of Altium Designer *or* Cadence Allegro; familiarity with Mentor Xpedition and KiCad.
- Solid understanding of SI/PI theory, return-path control, and impedance matching.
- Proven track record producing fabrication packages that pass first-article inspection.
- Confident in IPC-2221/2222, IPC-7351, and Class 3 workmanship standards.
- Clear, concise English communication—written and verbal.
Desired Plus
- Experience with RF front-ends, DDR5, PCIe Gen 5, or SerDes above 10 Gbps.
- Knowledge of thermal analysis, rigid-flex stack-ups, and HDI microvias.
- Exposure to EMC pre-compliance testing and mitigation techniques.
- Familiarity with scripting (Python, TCL) for design automation.
