Pavement Engineer | Pavement Design & Asset Management
Join a forward-thinking firm committed to sustainable infrastructure and professional development. You'll work in a collaborative environment on high-impact projects nationwide, pushing the boundaries of conventional pavement engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect new, resilient pavement structures (asphalt and concrete) using AASHTO and advanced mechanistic-empirical methodologies.
- Conduct comprehensive pavement condition assessments using non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, including Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR).
- Develop and implement sophisticated Pavement Management Systems (PMS) to optimize maintenance budgets and maximize network longevity.
- Formulate innovative material mix designs for asphalt and concrete, incorporating Superpave principles and recycled materials to enhance performance and sustainability.
- Provide expert technical oversight during construction, ensuring quality control (QC/QA) protocols meet or exceed project specifications.
- Author detailed engineering reports, specifications, and construction documents, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
Core Competencies and Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is required; a Master's degree focused on Pavement or Materials Engineering is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of direct experience in pavement design, analysis, and materials engineering is essential.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in a U.S. state is strongly desired, or the ability to obtain it within one year.
- Exceptional analytical skills to translate complex field and lab data into actionable, defensible engineering recommendations.
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Technical Proficiencies
- Advanced proficiency with pavement design software is required (e.g., AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design, KENPAVE).
- Hands-on experience interpreting NDT data from FWD and GPR systems is paramount for this role.
- Competency in general civil design and analysis software, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS platforms.
- Proficiency in data analysis using tools like Microsoft Excel; experience with scripting languages (Python, R) is a notable plus.
