Mechanical Test Engineer

Remotely
Full-time

We are a forward-thinking technology leader seeking an expert in product validation and reliability engineering. You will be the critical link between design and reality, developing sophisticated test strategies for groundbreaking products. Your expertise in validation, failure analysis, and automated testing will directly influence the quality and success of our next-generation mechanical and electromechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities

- Spearhead the end-to-end development and execution of comprehensive test plans—from initial concept to final report—for complex mechanical and electromechanical systems.

- Conceptualize and design custom test fixtures and apparatus using CAD software, ensuring precise and repeatable test conditions for rigorous validation and verification activities.

- Architect and implement automated test scripts, primarily using Python and LabVIEW, to enhance testing efficiency, data accuracy, and throughput for HALT/HASS and lifecycle testing protocols.

- Utilize advanced data acquisition (DAQ) hardware, oscilloscopes, strain gauges, accelerometers, and thermal cameras to collect critical performance data, performing rigorous statistical analysis (using tools like MATLAB) to derive actionable insights.

- Conduct in-depth root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to systematically identify design weaknesses, material defects, and process flaws, driving corrective actions with design engineering teams.

- Author meticulous and clear technical reports and documentation that communicate test procedures, statistical findings, and concrete recommendations to a diverse audience of technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Manage and maintain the test lab environment, including the calibration of instrumentation and the procurement of new equipment to continually advance our testing capabilities.

- Serve as the subject matter expert on reliability engineering, product validation standards, and experimental design (DOE), mentoring junior engineers and influencing best practices across the organization.

Qualifications and Expertise

- A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline is required.

- A proven track record of 5+ years in a hands-on role as a Test Engineer, Validation Engineer, or Reliability Engineer, preferably within a manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, or technology environment.

- Demonstrable proficiency in architecting automated test systems using LabVIEW or scripting languages such as Python.

- Hands-on experience with a variety of sensors and data acquisition (DAQ) systems (e.g., National Instruments hardware) for measuring physical phenomena like strain, vibration, temperature, and pressure.

- Strong foundational knowledge of mechanical principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes.

- Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to troubleshooting and failure analysis.

Preferred Skills and Competencies

- A Master's degree in a relevant engineering field is highly advantageous.

- Expertise in statistical analysis software and concepts, including Design of Experiments (DOE) and Weibull analysis.

- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) for the purpose of designing test fixtures and jigs.

- In-depth experience with specific testing protocols such as Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS).

- Familiarity with environmental testing, including vibration tables, thermal chambers, and shock testers.

- A deep understanding of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies.
