Material Handling Engineer

Remotely
Full-time

We are an independent engineering consultancy focused on robotics-enabled logistics. Our multidisciplinary teams deliver strategy, design, and execution for Fortune 500, mid-market, and venture-backed operators. Continuous learning, transparent feedback, and cross-team collaboration define our ethos—engineers influence decisions, not just drawings.

About the Role

– Own the full engineering lifecycle of automated material handling systems, from concept sketches to go-live support.

– Perform throughput modelling, capacity planning, and “what-if” simulations using FlexSim, AnyLogic or similar tools.

– Specify, justify, and layout conveyors, vertical lifts, high-density shuttle systems, pick-to-light stations.

– Integrate AMR or AGV fleets; create traffic rules, charging strategies, and safety zoning.

– Collaborate with controls specialists to tie hardware into existing WMS/WCS and PLC layers.

– Lead cross-functional design reviews with operations, safety, and finance stakeholders.

– Manage project schedules, RFQs, vendor bids, factory acceptance tests, and site installation.

– Document standards, training materials, and continuous improvement roadmaps.

Required Skills

– Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering.

– 5+ years designing automated material handling or robotics systems within distribution or manufacturing.

– Proficiency with AutoCAD (layouts), Excel (data mining, VBA macros), and at least one simulation package.

– Demonstrated command of conveyor, sorter, and ASRS component selection.

– Experience integrating WMS/WCS software with PLC or SCADA controls.

– Solid analytical toolkit: throughput analysis, MTBF/MTTR forecasting, ergonomic and safety compliance.

– Strong verbal and written communication; you explain technical trade-offs to non-technical partners.

Preferred Qualifications

– Hands-on deployment of AMR/AGV fleets—navigation algorithms, fleet management, charging.

– Familiarity with Six Sigma, lean warehousing, and Kaizen methodologies.

– PE license or progress toward licensure.

– Working knowledge of NFPA 79, RIA R15.06, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910 standards.
