Marine Structural Engineer
In this position, you apply advanced hydrodynamics, wave mechanics, and geotechnical insight to shape long-lived marine structures. Within the first ninety days, you will evaluate existing waterfront assets, model new subsea systems, and recommend pragmatic reinforcement strategies—always aligned with API, DNV, and ABS codes. The role supports hybrid or fully remote collaboration; field travel occurs only for critical inspections.
Responsibilities
- Engineer offshore platforms, piers, wharves, dolphins, and breakwaters from concept through detailed design.
- Run structural analysis in SACS, MOSES, ANSYS Aqwa, and custom FEA scripts—validate load cases, fatigue life, and ultimate limit states.
- Model wave, current, and berthing forces; integrate sediment transport and scour mitigation into foundation schemes.
- Specify cathodic protection, coatings, and corrosion-resistant alloys; quantify lifecycle cost savings.
- Draft construction drawings and specifications in AutoCAD and BIM-enabled environments.
- Coordinate with naval architects, geotechnical specialists, and survey teams to ensure holistic solutions.
- Assess hurricane and seismic resilience; deliver risk-mitigation reports for regulators and insurers.
- Guide repair campaigns—develop weld procedures, oversee non-destructive testing, and confirm class compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Structural, Civil, or Ocean Engineering.
- 6+ years designing marine or offshore structures; PE or SE license (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
- Proficiency with SACS, MOSES, AQWA, AutoCAD; familiarity with Revit or Tekla a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of API RP 2A, DNV-GL rules, ACI 318, AISC 360, and Eurocode 3.
- Command of fatigue, fracture, and corrosion science in saline environments.
- Strong report writing and stakeholder presentation skills—clear, concise, persuasive.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with floating wind foundations, LNG terminals, or shipyard dry docks.
- Working grasp of metocean data analytics in Python or MATLAB.
- Exposure to sustainability frameworks—ISO 14064, Envision, or LEED Waterfront.
Tools & Tech
- SACS, MOSES, ANSYS Aqwa, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Excel VBA, Dynamo, Git version control.
- Lidar, multibeam sonar, and drone photogrammetry for inspection workflows.
- Cloud-based collaboration suites for distributed engineering teams.
