HVAC Mechanical Engineer – Building Systems Design

You will join a multidisciplinary building-services team as the lead HVAC Mechanical Engineer. From conceptual load analysis to final commissioning, you shepherd every airflow, pipe loop, and control sequence. Your work delivers code-compliant comfort, slash­es utility costs, and supports healthy indoor air. You will collaborate remotely with architects, structural engineers, and sustainability consultants—leveraging Revit MEP, Trane TRACE 3D Plus, and Carrier HAP to shape data-driven solutions.


Responsibilities  

- Produce heating and cooling load calculations consistent with ASHRAE 90.1 and local energy codes.  

- Model complete HVAC systems in Revit MEP, generating coordinated ductwork, hydronic, and refrigerant routing.  

- Select chillers, boilers, air-handling units, VAV boxes, pumps, and fans with life-cycle cost in mind.  

- Draft mechanical schedules, details, and specifications that integrate with BAS protocols.  

- Direct clash-detection sessions with electrical and plumbing disciplines—resolving issues before construction.  

- Conduct energy audits for existing facilities; recommend retro-commissioning and IAQ upgrades.  

- Prepare control narratives and sequence diagrams for DDC integration.  

- Support field commissioning, functional testing, and TAB verification to close out projects.  

- Maintain project documentation for third-party sustainability certifications (LEED, WELL, CHPS).  


Requirements  

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; PE license or ability to obtain within 12 months.  

- 5+ years designing HVAC systems for commercial, institutional, or mixed-use buildings.  

- Proficiency in Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Trane TRACE 3D Plus, and Carrier HAP.  

- Command of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and psychrometrics.  

- Working knowledge of BAS architectures (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks) and commissioning protocols.  

- Familiarity with energy modeling tools (eQuest, EnergyPlus) and decarbonization strategies (heat pumps, VRF, ERV).  

- Strong communication skills—you translate technical jargon into actionable insight for non-engineers.  


Preferred  

- Experience with net-zero or all-electric designs.  

- ASHRAE Certified Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) or Commissioning Process Management Professional (CPMP).  

- Fluency in advanced airflow simulation (CFD) and parametric optimization.
