Fixture Design Engineer – Workholding & Inspection Fixtures
You design things that hold everything else together. As a Fixture Design Engineer, you will apply GD&T, ergonomics, and manufacturing know-how to build repeatable workholding, welding, and inspection fixtures for aerospace, automotive, and industrial production lines. Our R&D-driven culture favors curiosity, precision, and quick iterations—wherever you work from.
Responsibilities
- Translate machining and welding process plans into ergonomic fixture concepts.
- Model detailed 3D assemblies and fully-dimensioned drawings in SolidWorks or CATIA.
- Apply GD&T to locators and clamps to guarantee ±0.001 in repeatability.
- Engineer CMM and laser inspection nests that minimize cycle time.
- Select off-the-shelf clamps, pneumatics, and sensors; specify fasteners and materials.
- Perform basic FEA to validate stiffness, thermal growth, and safety factors.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and robotics teams to refine designs before release.
- Support launch—resolve shop-floor issues and implement engineering changes swiftly.
Key Projects You’ll Tackle
- High-tolerance machining fixtures for 5-axis aerospace components.
- Modular welding jigs with quick-change locators for EV battery frames.
- Lightweight carbon-fiber inspection fixtures for dimensional certification.
- Ergonomic assembly aids integrated into collaborative robot cells.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).
- 4+ years professional experience in jig and fixture design within production environments.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or CATIA; familiarity with Inventor is a plus.
- Demonstrated mastery of GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2018.
- Working knowledge of CNC machining, additive manufacturing, and welding processes.
- Experience designing CMM or laser tracker holding fixtures.
- Ability to read process sheets, tooling standards, and safety codes (OSHA, ANSI).
- Clear communicator able to present concepts to machinists, suppliers, and leadership.
Preferred Experience
- Verisurf, PolyWorks, or similar metrology simulation tools.
- Pneumatic/hydraulic clamp circuits and basic PLC I/O.
- Lean manufacturing, DFMA, and poke-yoke principles.
- Exposure to aerospace, EV, or medical-device regulatory documentation.
Tools & Environment
- CAD: SolidWorks 2024 SP, CATIA V6 R2023, Autodesk Inventor 2025.
- Analysis: Abaqus, SimSolid, ANSYS Discovery.
- PDM: Windchill, Teamcenter.
- Collaboration: Agile boards, digital work instructions, remote design reviews via VR.
Why This Opportunity
- Impact: Your fixtures will touch millions of parts every year.
- Autonomy: Drive the complete design cycle—from concept sketches to shop-floor validation.
- Remote Flex: Design from anywhere in the U.S., visit the plant only when prototypes roll out.
- Growth: Upskill in robotics integration, composite tooling, and smart fixturing sensors.
