Field Electrical Engineer – Commissioning & QA/QC Specialist

Remotely
Full-time

You will travel to project locations, guide electricians, validate installations against design intent, and breathe life into new power systems during startup. Between site visits, you will review schematics, prepare punch lists, and write QA/QC reports from a remote workspace. Your expertise ensures every switchgear lineup, relay panel, and cable tray meets performance and safety expectations—first time, every time.

Responsibilities

- Direct on-site installation of low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment, ensuring code compliance.

- Lead functional testing, insulation resistance checks, and power-quality measurements before energization.

- Execute commissioning plans, generate energization procedures, and manage live cut-overs.

- Diagnose complex field faults using multimeters, Megger instruments, PQ analyzers, and vendor software.

- Verify grounding, bonding, and arc-flash mitigation strategies in accordance with the latest NEC revisions.

- Issue detailed QA/QC documentation, redlines, and as-built markups for record drawings.

- Coordinate with construction managers, project engineers, and utility inspectors—resolving conflicts on the spot.

- Mentor craft labor on lockout/tagout, energized-work permits, and zero-voltage checks.

- Champion continuous improvement by feeding lessons-learned into design standards and commissioning templates.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline.

- 5+ years in field engineering, startup, or service of power distribution and control systems.

- Deep familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, NETA testing protocols, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S.

- Proven ability to interpret one-lines, wiring diagrams, and protective relay logic.

- Competence with multimeters, insulation testers, power quality analyzers, and relay test sets.

- Skilled in incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and technical writing.

Desired Skills

- PE license or ability to obtain within 18 months.

- Experience commissioning medium-voltage solar or battery-energy-storage facilities.

- Familiarity with SCADA point-to-point checks, IEC 61850 GOOSE messaging, and SEL relay configuration.

- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, or SKM for load-flow verification.

- Spanish fluency for bilingual field communication.
