Equipment Design Engineer

Remotely
Full-time

We are searching for an expert Equipment Design Engineer to conceptualize, architect, and deliver high-performance machinery. You will be at the forefront of industrial automation, designing intricate systems that redefine efficiency and precision in sectors like semiconductor manufacturing and food processing. This role offers the chance to make a tangible impact by transforming complex problems into elegant, functional hardware.

Your Impact & Key Responsibilities

- Translate abstract customer requirements and process needs into detailed, manufacturable 3D models and 2D drawings for novel automation equipment.

- Spearhead the mechanical design and integration of complex multi-axis robotic systems, advanced machine vision, and precision sensor arrays.

- Conduct rigorous kinematic and dynamic analysis (using cutting-edge FEA and motion simulation tools) to validate and optimize system performance, durability, and speed.

- Architect robust and efficient pneumatic and hydraulic circuits—from schematic design to component selection—for tasks requiring precision control and high force.

- Meticulously size and select all mechanical and electromechanical components, including motors, gearboxes, bearings, and actuators, balancing performance, cost, and reliability.

- Develop exceptionally clear and comprehensive documentation packages, which include detailed assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and preventative maintenance manuals.

- Collaborate intensively with electrical and controls engineering counterparts to guarantee flawless electromechanical integration and system functionality.

- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) with expertise to ensure part interchangeability, proper fit, and seamless assembly.

Core Qualifications & Expertise

- A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or a closely related technical discipline is required.

- A minimum of five years of progressive experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer or Equipment Design Engineer, with a strong focus on custom industrial automation.

- Expert-level proficiency in at least one major 3D CAD platform—preferably SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or Siemens NX—is essential.

- Proven, hands-on experience utilizing FEA and motion simulation software (e.g., SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS) for stress, deflection, and mechanism analysis.

- A profound understanding of fundamental machine design principles, including material science and selection for moving parts, power transmission design, and precision bearing selection.

- Demonstrated mastery in designing complete pneumatic and hydraulic systems, not just modifying existing ones.

- Tangible experience integrating electrical controls, PLCs, various sensors, and actuators into your mechanical designs.

- An exceptional command of GD&T principles and their practical application in a production environment, adhering to ASME Y14.5 standards.

What Will Make You Stand Out

- Direct design experience for machinery used in highly regulated or specialized industries... such as semiconductor fabrication, food processing, or medical device manufacturing.

- Specific project experience in designing and implementing custom Robotic End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT).

- A history of successfully executing equipment retrofit and upgrade projects, enhancing the capabilities of existing automated lines.

- A working knowledge of PLC programming logic (like Ladder Logic) and how it directly influences mechanical design decisions and timing.

- Familiarity with industrial machinery safety standards (e.g., ISO 13849, RIA 15.06) and designing for compliance.
