Electrical Control Systems Engineer – PLC & SCADA Design
A privately held engineering group delivers turnkey automation for manufacturing, energy, and oil & gas facilities across North America. The multidisciplinary team values knowledge sharing, disciplined design, and flexible collaboration (onsite, hybrid, or fully remote). Your impact will be visible, measured, and celebrated.
Responsibilities
- Engineer robust PLC/DCS code for continuous and batch processes using Rockwell, Siemens, and Schneider platforms.
- Configure intuitive HMI and SCADA screens in Wonderware, FactoryTalk View, and Ignition—ensuring operators grasp data at a glance.
- Draft P&ID-based control narratives, I/O lists, and UL 508A-compliant panel schematics in AutoCAD Electrical.
- Select, size, and calibrate smart instrumentation—flow, level, pressure, analyzers—to meet ISA standards.
- Tune PID loops to optimize throughput, reduce energy waste, and protect equipment.
- Integrate secure industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP) with segregated VLANs and managed switches.
- Lead FAT/SAT, startup, and onsite & remote commissioning; resolve emergent issues in real time.
- Document every revision in a structured change-management system to maintain traceability.
- Mentor junior engineers, electricians, and technicians on best practices and safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Control Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
- 5+ years creating PLC logic, HMI graphics, and SCADA databases for industrial automation.
- Proficiency with Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, and Wonderware System Platform.
- Demonstrated expertise in PID control, instrumentation selection, and P&ID interpretation.
- Hands-on experience commissioning UL 508A panels and troubleshooting field instrumentation.
- Solid grasp of NEC, ISA-5.1, and ISA-88/95 standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to translate technical detail for non-engineers.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to oil & gas, chemical processing, or high-speed packaging lines.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (ISA/IEC 62443).
- Working knowledge of scripting in Python or VBA for data collection and reporting.
- Experience with digital twin simulation or virtual commissioning tools.
