Drainage Engineer

Remotely
Full-time

Our organization is a leader in engineering and design consulting, renowned for tackling complex challenges with innovative and sustainable solutions. We foster a collaborative environment where technical excellence and professional growth are paramount.

Key Responsibilities

- Design comprehensive storm sewer systems, culverts, and open channels using advanced hydraulic modeling techniques.

- Conduct detailed hydraulic and hydrologic (H&H) calculations for pipe networks, ditches, and detention/retention basins.

- Develop and analyze intricate site grading plans to ensure positive drainage and mitigate potential flooding issues for large-scale projects.

- Champion the integration of Low Impact Development (LID) and green infrastructure principles into modern stormwater designs.

- Prepare and author comprehensive drainage reports, impact studies, and technical memorandums for regulatory submission and client review.

- Ensure all designs rigorously adhere to local, state, and federal drainage criteria and environmental regulations—your expertise here is crucial.

- Create detailed Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) plans to maintain site integrity and protect surrounding ecosystems during construction phases.

- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams—including structural engineers, architects, and planners—to deliver integrated and successful project solutions.

Core Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline is required.

- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience focused specifically on drainage design and stormwater management.

- A Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one US state is highly preferred, with the ability to obtain licensure in other states through reciprocity.

- Demonstrated mastery of industry-standard software is essential, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, and at least one of the following: StormCAD, HydroCAD, CulvertMaster, or InfraWorks.

- Strong command of hydraulic and hydrologic principles and their practical application in complex, real-world scenarios.

- Verifiable experience in preparing site grading and drainage plans for land development or public infrastructure projects.

- Deep understanding of local drainage ordinances and the nuanced permitting processes across various jurisdictions is a must.

- Experience with GIS software (such as ArcGIS) for spatial analysis and watershed delineation is a significant advantage.

What You Will Achieve

- You will take ownership of the hydraulic and hydrologic design components for significant infrastructure and land development projects.

- You will shape communities by designing resilient and sustainable stormwater systems that protect property and the environment for future generations.

- You will serve as a subject matter expert, guiding project teams and mentoring junior engineers in the nuances of advanced drainage engineering.

- You will solve complex water resource challenges, from mitigating adverse downstream impacts to implementing innovative green infrastructure solutions.

- You will refine your expertise by working on a diverse portfolio of projects, potentially spanning public works, transportation, and private development sectors.
