Data Center Electrical Engineer – Critical Facilities Design
Keep mission-critical data centers powered, efficient, and safe. This role demands a seasoned Data Center Electrical Engineer who can guide Tier-rated infrastructure from concept through commissioning while driving PUE down and uptime up. You will shape resilient power architectures—UPS, generators, PDUs—and validate them with arc-flash studies and rigorous testing.
About the Role
You design and safeguard electrical systems that never blink. Partnering with architects, mechanical engineers, and operations teams, you translate ambitious capacity forecasts into scalable one-line diagrams, then supervise construction and commissioning (Cx). Remote collaboration is encouraged; occasional site visits ensure field realities match your models.
Responsibilities
- Engineer low-, medium-, and high-voltage topologies that align with Tier III/IV guidelines.
- Model load flow, fault current, and protective coordination in ETAP or SKM.
- Develop generator-paralleling and UPS topologies for 99.999 % availability.
- Calculate, track, and optimize Power Usage Effectiveness across multiple halls.
- Produce BIM-ready drawings in Revit and detailed schematics in AutoCAD.
- Lead capacity-planning charrettes, advising stakeholders on growth roadmaps.
- Write and execute commissioning scripts—functional, IST, black-start.
- Perform arc-flash risk assessments per NFPA 70E; craft mitigation plans.
- Analyze CFD reports to ensure electrical layouts support thermal performance.
- Maintain an as-built digital twin, updating single-lines and breaker settings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering (PE license or pursuit preferred).
- 7 + years designing mission-critical or industrial power systems; data center focus ideal.
- Proficiency in ETAP, SKM Power*Tools, Revit, AutoCAD; CFD familiarity valued.
- Demonstrated success with UPS ranging 500 kVA–3 MVA, PDU distribution, and standby generators.
- Deep grasp of IEEE, NEC, NFPA 70E, Uptime Institute Tier standards, and IEC norms.
- Competence in short-circuit, load-flow, and arc-flash studies—reports that stand peer review.
- Comfort leading multidisciplinary teams, vendors, and on-site contractors.
- Clear technical writing and spoken communication; you brief executives with ease.
- Eligible to work in the United States; willing to travel up to 15 % for site acceptance.
What Makes This Opportunity Unique
- Influence blue-chip cloud, fintech, and AI platforms that rely on flawless power.
- Shape sustainability—every design decision affects carbon and cost.
- Collaborate with a brain-trust of mechanical, controls, and cybersecurity experts.
- Enjoy flexibility: design remotely, inspect on-site, balance life and work.
