Construction Design Engineer – BIM/VDC & Field Coordination
An established, employee-owned builder delivers complex commercial, infrastructure, and public works projects across the United States. An integrated design-build culture pairs virtual design with boots-on-the-ground know-how, giving you direct access to superintendents, schedulers, and project executives who value engineering rigor and creative solutions.
Responsibilities
- Convert architectural and structural drawings into clear, buildable shop sets and temporary works plans.
- Lead constructability reviews—identify conflicts, propose value-engineering options, document resolutions.
- Run BIM and 4D simulations in Navisworks and Synchro to validate sequencing, logistics, and safety zones.
- Answer RFIs swiftly; coordinate with subcontractors to align detailing, tolerances, and material lead times.
- Deploy laser scans and field surveys to compare as-built conditions against models, flag deviations early.
- Draft shoring, formwork, and rigging schemes that satisfy OSHA and local code requirements.
- Support schedule development by integrating engineering activities with P6 or Power BI dashboards.
- Maintain rigorous quality control: write ITPs, witness critical inspections, close NCRs decisively.
- Mentor junior VDC engineers and site foremen on model navigation and issue-tracking workflows.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in Civil, Structural, or Construction Engineering (PE or EIT preferred).
- 5+ years designing temporary works or means-and-methods for mid- to large-scale building projects.
- Expert user of Revit, Navisworks Manage, AutoCAD, Bluebeam; working knowledge of Synchro 4D and Procore.
- Proven track record executing clash detection, quantity take-offs, and model-based scheduling.
- Deep familiarity with ACI, AISC, IBC, and OSHA Subpart R.
- Field experience—comfortable walking slabs, climbing scaffolds, and translating model data to lay-down areas.
- Clear, persuasive communicator; able to brief executives one hour and ironworkers the next.
- Eligible to work in the United States; open to periodic travel. Hybrid or remote coordination considered.
Team & Culture
You join a flat, fast-moving organization where engineers influence critical decisions daily. Innovation is welcome—whether you champion parametric families, drone photogrammetry, or AI-enhanced logistics, you’ll find budget and backing. Expect collaborative design charrettes, craft-focused safety workshops, and continuous-improvement sprints that celebrate lessons learned.
Growth Path
Deliver excellence on one project and the next step is yours: specialty engineering lead, regional VDC manager, even design-build preconstruction strategist. Internal training credits help you earn PMP, DBIA, or PE licensure while knowledge-sharing rounds boost your public-speaking confidence.
