Civil Design Engineer – Land Development & Stormwater

You will lead multi-disciplinary site design from concept through bid set. Primary keywords—Civil Design Engineer, land development, stormwater management—are purposefully placed here to maximize search visibility in Google and niche engineering boards.


Responsibilities  

- Develop site layout, grading, roadway, drainage, and utility plans that meet federal, state, and municipal codes.  

- Model stormwater conveyance systems using HEC-RAS, StormCAD, and other hydraulic tools; optimize detention, retention, and LID features.  

- Prepare erosion and sediment control strategies that secure rapid regulatory approval.  

- Produce construction documents, quantity take-offs, and engineer’s cost opinions with precision—balancing performance and economy.  

- Coordinate with surveyors, geotechnical specialists, traffic engineers, and landscape architects to align horizontal and vertical geometry.  

- Drive the permitting process—responding to agency comments, attending hearings, and managing submittal packages.  

- Mentor junior drafters and EITs; champion quality-assurance checklists and CAD standards.  

- Maintain project schedules and budgets while communicating progress to project managers and external stakeholders.  

- Implement BIM and GIS data to enhance clash detection and real-time collaboration in remote or hybrid settings.  


Required Skills  

- 5+ years of progressive experience as a Civil Design Engineer or Site Design Engineer.  

- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for alignments, surfaces, corridors, and grading objects.  

- Proven hydrology and hydraulics background—rational method, NRCS TR-55, and open-channel flow calculations.  

- Solid command of zoning, subdivision ordinances, and land-use regulations across multiple states.  

- Familiarity with MicroStation or OpenRoads for DOT coordination.  

- Competence in ArcGIS for watershed delineation and spatial analysis.  

- Working knowledge of surveying principles, geotechnical reports, and pavement design.  

- Strong written and verbal communication aligned with ASTM and CSI specification standards.  

- U.S. work authorization.  


Preferred Skills  

- PE license (or ability to obtain within 12 months).  

- Experience with LEED Site credits, Envision, or similar sustainable design frameworks.  

- Python scripting for automating CAD tasks or data cleansing.  

- Exposure to drone photogrammetry, point-cloud processing, and reality capture workflows.
