Building Structural Engineer

Remotely
Office
Full-time

About the Role

– Perform advanced structural analysis using ETABS, SAP2000, RISA-3D, and RAM Structural System to verify strength, stiffness, and serviceability.

– Model and detail foundations, lateral systems, and framing in Revit Structure and AutoCAD; ensure drawings align with project intent.

– Calculate gravity, wind, and seismic forces per ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318 (plus regional amendments).

– Coordinate with geotechnical, architecture, MEP, and construction teams to resolve clashes—sometimes in real time during virtual walk-throughs.

– Review shop drawings, RFIs, and field changes, issuing clear directives that keep schedules intact.

– Conduct forensic assessments of existing structures, draft concise reports, and recommend retrofit strategies.

– Lead peer reviews for third-party designs, flagging hidden vulnerabilities before they become field issues.

– Visit project sites (periodically) to inspect steel placement, concrete pours, and critical connections.

Minimum Requirements

– PE or SE license in at least one U.S. state; eligibility for comity in additional jurisdictions.

– 5+ years progressive experience in structural design of commercial or institutional buildings.

– Proficiency in ETABS, SAP2000, RISA-3D, RAM, Revit Structure, and AutoCAD.

– Command of structural analysis, finite element methods, and seismic detailing.

– Deep knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, NDS, and material mechanics.

– Clear, concise technical writing; ability to present design rationale to non-engineers.

– Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Extras

– Experience with performance-based seismic design or nonlinear time-history analysis.

– Familiarity with steel moment frames, CLT panels, and post-tensioned concrete slabs.

– BIM scripting (Dynamo, Python) for parametric workflows.

– LEED or Envision project exposure.

Why You Will Thrive

– Tackle landmark projects that demand ingenuity—schools, healthcare campuses, adaptive-reuse towers.

– Collaborate with a multidisciplinary cohort that values curiosity and evidence-based decisions.

– Enjoy autonomy: flexible hours, cloud-based tools, and scheduled team huddles keep you connected yet unhindered.
