Building Structural Engineer (Design & Analysis)
We are a forward-thinking, national engineering consultancy dedicated to innovation and excellence in the built environment. Our team tackles challenging and rewarding projects across the commercial, real estate development, and institutional sectors. We foster a culture of deep collaboration and continuous professional growth, empowering our engineers to push the boundaries of design and create lasting, resilient structures that define communities.
Key Responsibilities
- You will architect and engineer the primary gravity and lateral force resisting systems for a diverse portfolio of building types, including complex commercial, residential, and institutional structures.
- You will perform comprehensive and nuanced structural analysis, meticulously calculating wind and seismic loads in strict accordance with ASCE 7 and other relevant jurisdictional codes to ensure maximum safety and performance.
- You will engineer robust and cost-effective foundation systems—including shallow, deep, and mat foundations—for a wide spectrum of geological conditions and building loads, ensuring long-term stability.
- You will collaborate proactively with multidisciplinary teams, including architects and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) engineers, to create seamless, fully integrated, and constructible design solutions.
- You will guarantee that all structural designs and documentation rigorously adhere to the latest International Building Code (IBC) provisions, championing a culture of compliance and technical excellence.
- You will conduct and oversee special inspections and detailed structural condition assessments for building renovations, adaptive reuse projects, and critical seismic retrofitting initiatives.
- You will execute detailed designs utilizing a wide array of construction materials, demonstrating mastery in structural steel (AISC 360), reinforced concrete (ACI 318), timber, and masonry.
- You will prepare, review, and stamp comprehensive construction documents, calculations, and structural drawings, taking full ownership of the project's structural integrity from start to finish.
Core Qualifications & Skills
- A Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering is required; a Master's degree with a structural focus is highly advantageous.
- You must possess a minimum of seven years of progressive, hands-on experience in a role as a Building Structural Engineer focused on the US market.
- A current Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one US state is mandatory. Attainment of a Structural Engineer (SE) license will be considered a significant asset.
- You have demonstrated expert-level proficiency with industry-leading structural analysis software—tools like ETABS, RISA-3D, RAM Structural System, and SAFE are part of your daily workflow.
- You bring advanced capabilities in Building Information Modeling (BIM), specifically leveraging Autodesk Revit to develop intricate structural models and facilitate clash detection and coordination.
- Your background includes in-depth, practical application of modern building codes and standards (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360) on completed projects.
- You have proven, verifiable experience in the seismic design and analysis of buildings, particularly for structures located in high-seismic regions of the United States.
- You must show an ability to expertly manage multiple complex projects concurrently—ranging from tenant improvements to large-scale new construction—without sacrificing quality or attention to detail.
You Will Excel in This Role If You
- Possess a meticulous, unwavering eye for detail and a genuine passion for solving the complex three-dimensional puzzles inherent in structural engineering.
- Thrive in a collaborative (though remote) environment, with an exceptional ability to communicate highly technical concepts clearly and persuasively to non-technical partners and stakeholders.
- Are relentlessly driven to deliver technical excellence, whether you are conducting a due diligence report, performing a peer review, or leading a full ground-up building design.
- Can work with a high degree of autonomy and self-motivation in a remote setting, demonstrating world-class time management, discipline, and organizational skills.
- Have prior experience in the fascinating field of forensic engineering or structural failure analysis... a definite plus that sets you apart.
