Building Design Engineer – Architectural & Construction Lead

Remotely
Full-time

As a Building Design Engineer, you guide projects from early feasibility through stamped construction documents. You translate client narratives into precise plans, partner with architects, structural and MEP teams, and safeguard compliance with IBC, ADA, energy, and zoning regulations.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop full drawing sets—schematic, design-development, and construction—using AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam.

- Generate 3D models and clash-detect with BIM workflows to streamline fabrication.

- Perform structural, thermal, and daylighting calculations; recommend resilient materials grounded in ASTM testing data.

- Prepare sealed specifications and narratives that satisfy local authorities, insurers, and lenders.

- Coordinate permit submittals, respond to plan-checker comments, and maintain revision logs.

- Lead value-engineering workshops, extracting 10–15 % cost savings without degrading performance.

- Validate shop drawings, RFIs, and field changes; issue clarifying sketches within 24 hours.

- Uphold rigorous quality-control reviews before every milestone issue.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, or Civil/Structural Engineering.

- 5+ years producing construction documentation for U.S. commercial or mixed-use projects.

- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Bluebeam, and MS Office.

- Working knowledge of IBC, NFPA 101, local zoning ordinances, and LEED v4.

- Demonstrated success coordinating with structural, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing disciplines.

- Clear technical writing skills for specifications and client reports.

Preferred Skills

- Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect (RA) license.

- Experience with energy-modeling suites (eQUEST, IESVE) and life-cycle cost analysis.

- Familiarity with modular construction and off-site fabrication.

- Ability to script custom Revit add-ins (Dynamo, Python) to automate repetitive tasks.

Why This Role

- Influence landmark projects while enjoying flexible, partially remote schedules.

- Collaborate with a cross-functional cohort committed to carbon-smart design.

- Access mentoring paths toward licensure and project management leadership.
