Building Automation Systems Engineer
Key Responsibilities
- Develop end-to-end BAS concepts, schematics, and network architectures that meet project energy and performance goals.
- Program and fine-tune control sequences for HVAC, lighting, and shading to deliver measurable comfort and efficiency gains.
- Integrate low-voltage subsystems (access control, video surveillance, fire alarm, audiovisual) for seamless interoperability.
- Produce integration specifications, I/O lists, and data-tag maps that ensure reliable information flow across BACnet, Modbus, and RESTful APIs.
- Commission and retro-commission smart-building technologies; validate sensor calibration, trend logs, and alarm routing.
- Analyze live and historical BAS data using IoT analytics to uncover optimization opportunities and reduce carbon footprint.
- Troubleshoot network latency, controller failures, and cybersecurity vulnerabilities—driving rapid root-cause resolution.
- Collaborate with BIM teams to embed control devices into Revit models and maintain an accurate digital twin throughout the life-cycle.
- Mentor junior engineers, subcontractors, and client operators on best practices in systems integration and controls programming.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years designing, programming, and commissioning commercial Building Automation Systems.
- Proven mastery of Niagara Framework (Tridium N4), BACnet/IP & MS/TP, and Modbus TCP/RTU.
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, and Visio for system documentation.
- Working knowledge of IT networking fundamentals (VLANs, VPNs, TLS certificates) within operational technology environments.
- Strong data-driven mindset; ability to interpret trend logs and KPI dashboards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Desired Expertise
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or LEED accreditation.
- Experience with advanced analytics platforms (SkySpark, Fault Detection & Diagnostics).
- Familiarity with LoRaWAN, MQTT, or other IoT protocols.
- Exposure to cybersecurity frameworks such as ISA/IEC 62443.
