Automation Engineer
You are an Automation Engineer who thrives on turning repetitive manufacturing steps into sleek, data-driven sequences. Within the first hours you’ll deep-dive into PLC code, HMI graphics and robot motion paths, translating production goals into safe, efficient and *highly intelligent* lines. Your mastery of Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal and SCADA platforms powers measurable gains in uptime, yield and energy use.
About the Opportunity
- Craft end-to-end control architectures for automotive, food, pharmaceutical and consumer-goods facilities.
- Operate remotely when diagnostics, code reviews or FATs can be executed through secure VPNs—onsite visits reserved for critical commissioning.
- Collab with mechanical, electrical and quality teams to weave Industry 4.0 concepts into legacy assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Program, debug and document PLC logic (Ladder, Structured Text, Function Blocks) for discrete and continuous processes.
- Design intuitive HMI/SCADA dashboards in Ignition or Wonderware, enabling operators to act on real-time KPIs.
- Integrate FANUC, ABB or Yaskawa robots with safety-rated cells, vision systems and torque tools.
- Perform root-cause analysis on downtime events; deploy countermeasures that cut recurrence by at least 80 %.
- Generate electrical schematics in AutoCAD Electrical, adhering to NFPA 79 and OSHA machine-safety directives.
- Author functional specifications, I/O lists and FAT/SAT protocols; lead site acceptance to qualified hand-off.
- Mentor technicians and junior engineers, nurturing a culture of Lean, Six Sigma and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic or Manufacturing Engineering.
- 5+ years designing industrial automation with Rockwell or Siemens control families.
- Proven experience integrating robots, VFDs, safety PLCs and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet).
- Fluent in PID tuning, servo motion and data collection (SQL, OPC UA, MQTT).
- Solid understanding of UL 508A panel design and NEC compliance.
- Excellent communication skills—able to convey complex control logic to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Plus
- Ignition Gold or Wonderware Certified Developer.
- Green Belt or higher in Lean Six Sigma.
- Exposure to energy-monitoring projects or carbon reduction initiatives.
- Spanish proficiency for North-American multi-site support.
Why You Will Excel
- You influence entire production ecosystems—not just a single machine.
- Your projects span virtual simulations to on-site start-ups, ensuring full ownership and visibility of results.
- Flexible remote troubleshooting keeps you engaged with multiple plants without endless travel.
- Continuous professional development in robotics, cybersecurity and advanced analytics is actively encouraged.
