Automation Electrical Engineer – Control Panels & Machine Safety

Remotely
Full-time

You are an Automation Electrical Engineer who transforms ideas into reliable hardware. From schematic to startup, you orchestrate motors, drives, sensors, and industrial networks. Your mastery of control panel design, motion control, and machine safety turns complex requirements into elegant, documented solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Draft detailed electrical schematics in AutoCAD Electrical or *SolidWorks Electrical*.

- Engineer UL 508A-compliant control panels, select components, and size conductors.

- Specify and tune servo drives, VFDs, stepper systems—achieving smooth, precise motion.

- Program PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff) and develop intuitive HMIs.

- Validate machinery against ISO 13849 and NFPA 79—conduct risk assessments and verify safety circuits.

- Integrate Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, Modbus, and legacy fieldbuses into cohesive architectures.

- Coordinate with mechanical, robotics, and software teams…ensuring seamless system integration.

- Produce bills of material, test procedures, and as-built documentation.

- Mentor technicians and junior engineers, instilling best practices in wiring, grounding, and EMC.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline.

- 4+ years designing industrial automation controls in manufacturing, logistics, or pharmaceuticals.

- Proven experience with UL 508A panel layouts, heat-rise calculations, and short-circuit analysis.

- Hands-on PLC/HMI programming, motion controller commissioning, and network troubleshooting.

- Strong grasp of ISO 13849, OSHA, and NEC requirements for functional safety.

- Ability to read P&IDs, pneumatic diagrams, and mechanical prints.

- Fluent in English; capable of turning technical jargon into clear guidance for non-engineers.

Preferred Extras

- PE license or pursuit of licensure.

- Exposure to robotics integration (cobots, SCARA, delta).

- Familiarity with Industry 4.0 protocols—OPC UA, MQTT, edge data collection.

- Experience delivering fully remote support through secure VPN and augmented-reality service tools.

Why This Role Stands Out

You will influence projects end-to-end, not just one slice of the circuit. Expect varied industries, rapid innovation cycles, and the autonomy to recommend emerging technologies. Flexible collaboration models—including partial remote design and virtual FATs—allow you to balance deep focus with on-site commissioning thrills.
