Key Responsibilities
- Architect and deploy robust, end-to-end industrial control systems for a variety of applications, from process control to advanced robotics and automation.
- Develop, test, and commission intricate PLC logic and code—primarily utilizing Rockwell (Allen-Bradley) and Siemens platforms—to ensure flawless machine operation and process integrity.
- Design intuitive and highly functional HMI screens that provide operators with critical process visualization and control capabilities.
- Fine-tune PID loops and implement advanced control algorithms to optimize system stability, efficiency, and output quality across dynamic operating conditions.
- Create comprehensive electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and bills of materials using AutoCAD Electrical or comparable E-CAD software, adhering to UL and industry best practices.
- Develop, configure, and integrate SCADA systems (e.g., Ignition, Wonderware, FactoryTalk View) for plant-wide data acquisition, historical trending, and enterprise-level reporting.
- Lead system commissioning, startup, and validation activities (IQ/OQ), providing expert-level troubleshooting for electrical, software, and networking issues—both remotely and during occasional site visits.
- Ensure all control system designs and implementations comply with relevant machine safety standards, including OSHA and functional safety principles (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 61508).
Core Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- A minimum of five years of direct, hands-on experience in a role such as a Controls Engineer, Automation Engineer, or PLC Engineer.
- Demonstrable proficiency in PLC programming with a strong emphasis on Rockwell Studio 5000 and/or Siemens TIA Portal.
- Proven ability to independently design industrial control panels and create detailed electrical schematics from the ground up.
- A solid theoretical and practical understanding of control theory, including classical PID control and modern control strategies.
- Experience with the full lifecycle of automation projects, from initial concept and specification to final commissioning and support.
Preferred Expertise
- Hands-on experience integrating and programming industrial robots (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB, Universal Robots) is highly advantageous.
- Deep knowledge of motion control systems, including servo drives, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and multi-axis coordination.
- Familiarity with a range of industrial networking protocols such as EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP/IP, and OPC UA.
- Previous experience in specialized industries like automotive, aerospace, life sciences, or chemical processing.
- Proficiency with engineering software like MATLAB/Simulink for algorithm development and simulation or LabVIEW for data acquisition.
- A strong understanding of process instrumentation—including the selection, calibration, and integration of sensors, transmitters, and final control elements.
