Accessibility Engineer – ADA & Universal Design Specialist

You translate legal codes into pragmatic drawings. You question every threshold, slope, and fixture. You wield AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and a digital level to assure that spaces welcome every user. Remote collaboration is fully supported, with periodic field visits scheduled around project milestones.


Key Responsibilities  

- Review architectural drawings for ADA, FHA, and local code compliance.  

- Conduct on-site accessibility audits—measure ramps, doors, restrooms, signage.  

- Draft barrier-removal plans and detailed transition schedules for public entities.  

- Advise design teams on universal design strategies that exceed minimum codes.  

- Provide expert-witness testimony when disputes arise.  

- Create and deliver interactive training sessions for architects, owners, and facility managers.  

- Maintain an up-to-date library of standards documents and best practices.  

- Collaborate with civil, structural, MEP, and landscape teams to resolve conflicts swiftly.  

- Prepare concise technical reports that withstand legal scrutiny.  

- Track corrective actions to closure, documenting evidence with photos and field notes.


Required Qualifications  

- Bachelor’s (or higher) in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.  

- 5+ years focused on accessibility compliance within the built environment.  

- Deep command of ADA, ADAAG, 2010 Standards, FHA, ICC A117.1, and state variations.  

- Proficient in AutoCAD and Bluebeam; comfortable with digital measurement tools.  

- Analytical mindset—spot code violations in seconds and propose balanced remedies.  

- Persuasive communicator able to explain “why” to non-technical stakeholders.  

- Unflinching attention to detail; nothing escapes your survey tape.  

- Valid driver’s license and readiness for occasional domestic travel.  


Preferred Extras  

- CASp, RAS, or similar accessibility certification.  

- Experience with BIM coordination (Revit, Navisworks).  

- Familiarity with LEED and WELL intersecting requirements.
