Human-Robot Interaction Engineer (HRI, Robotics UX)

Remotely
Full-time

At our core, we are a pioneering team dedicated to advancing the frontier of robotics and automation. We are a forward research and development organization committed to creating technology that enhances human capability and experience.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and execute comprehensive user studies - both qualitative and quantitative-to deeply understand user needs, mental models, and perceptions of robotic systems.

- Develop and prototype intuitive user interfaces - spanning gestural, voice (NLU/NLP), and advanced graphical user interfaces (GUI) - for complex robotic platforms.

- Program and implement sophisticated social cues and expressive, non-verbal behaviors in robots to enhance communication, predictability, and user acceptance.

- Analyze critical human factors, including cognitive load, situational awareness, and trust in automation, to rigorously optimize system safety and operational effectiveness.

- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical engineers, software developers, and product managers to integrate HRI principles throughout the entire product development lifecycle.

- Utilize high-fidelity simulation environments (such as Unity or Unreal Engine) to rapidly test, validate, and iterate on interaction concepts before hardware deployment.

- Translate complex research findings into actionable design requirements and engineering specifications for the development teams.

Core Qualifications

- A Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Science, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.

- Demonstrated proficiency in programming with Python and/or C++ for robotics applications and data analysis.

- Solid, hands-on experience with the Robot Operating System (ROS/ROS2) is an essential prerequisite for this role.

- A proven background in experimental design, advanced statistical analysis, and conducting rigorous user-centered research (UCR).

- A strong portfolio showcasing tangible projects in human-robot interaction, UX for complex systems, or novel robotics interface design.

Preferred Expertise

- A Master's or Ph.D. in a field directly related to Human-Robot Interaction is highly desirable.

- Professional experience with advanced 3D simulation tools (Unity, Unreal Engine, Gazebo) for creating and testing complex user scenarios.

- Familiarity with modern UX/UI design and wireframing tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD) and established design methodologies.

- Working knowledge of machine learning concepts, particularly as they apply to adaptive interfaces and user behavior prediction.

- Prior work in specific domains such as consumer robotics, automotive in-cabin systems, medical robotics, or industrial automation is highly advantageous.

- Experience with specialized research hardware - such as eye-tracking systems or physiological sensors (EEG, GSR) - is a significant plus.
